THE JINDALBA BUSH TUCKER ZONE - GARDEN & TRAIL
Jindalba State School is very fortunate to have our own bush tucker garden and trail. We call it the “Tucker Zone”. It is an initiative resulting from collaboration with our local Aboriginal community council and lead by Aunty Nola and Aunty Maxine.
We are very thankful to all the helpers who help tend our garden to provide a fantastic “outdoor classroom".
Here are some of the foods we can find in our Tucker Zone.
Winter Vegetables
We have a large selection of vegetables in our garden including carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, turnips and silverbeet. We also have bush tomato and pencil yams.
Seeds, spices and herbs
Our Aunty's help us to find some great spices and seeds on our bush tucker trail. This includes Macadamia nuts, Mulga seeds, Wattle seeds and native basil.
Berries, Lilly Pillys,
We have plenty of Lilly Pillys in our garden. We also have wild rosella and lemon myrtle.
Bush Figs
Bush figs are also in season as are our Quandong fruit. Quandong have even more vitamin C than Oranges.
